Spaniels that have found their new forever homes during this month
Rolo is a 6 year old Liver and White Springer. He has come to CAESSR from a home where the owner is wheel-chair bound and unable to give him the exercise and attention he needs. Rolo's ears were very long and completely matted. He has now been bathed and totally groomed. He was so excited by all the fuss and attention and just wanted to lick the groomer's face. Rolo is now looking for a nice family home. He can get very excited when given attention from new people and can have a little weeing accident. He is good with other dogs, but has not lived with a cat. He seems to be OK with children, but we don't think he has lived with children. He pulls on the lead and he travels well in the car.
Rolo has been taken for a health check and vaccination and was good at the vets, however, the volunteer says that his understanding of basic commands is lacking - he doesn't understand "Sit" etc..
Boosh is a 5½ year old Cocker Spaniel X Cavalier King Charles, who looks and behaves more like a Cocker Spaniel. He is white with Orange patches. His family have three dogs and Boosh is the eldest. He has become unsettled and grumpy and is fighting with the other dogs. He needs a home where he will be the only dog and this has been tested by the owners, whose aunt took him for a short period and he was happy and contented. Boosh is a busy dog and he dances when he is excited. He has grown up with children, but he has not lived with a cat. He doesn't climb on the chairs and won't go on carpeted floors without invitation. He pulls on the lead, but comes back to heel if you stop. He has fantastic recall. He will sit beside you if you point downwards. Boosh will play ball all day and loves to swim. He doesn't like firework night and he can bark at other dogs when out walking. He travels well in the car and is not used to being left home alone very much.
Pepsi is an 8 year old Black working type Cocker. His owner has health problems and feels that her anxiety is affecting Pepsi's behaviour. He tries to be protective of his owner if anyone comes to the door - so needs to be put into another room. He is also not good with small children. He is generally a friendly dog, who loves to interact with people. He tries to persuade every visitor to play with him - presenting them with a ball, toy or old sock. He is OK with other dogs, but has not lived with a cat. He is not a cuddly dog, but he loves to sit next to people and to have his tummy rubbed. Sometimes he will tolerate a pat or stroke on the head, but it's not his favourite. He pulls on the lead initially and is then OK. He has a good recall and likes to get wet. He loves being in the car and can be left happily for short periods. Pepsi is looking for a fairly experienced home, with no younger children.
Alfie and Archie are 7 month old Black show type Cocker Spaniels. They are bonded litter brothers that are looking for a new home together. One of their owners has become poorly and has to go into hospital shortly. Alfie and Archie have no behavioural problems and have excellent temperaments. Alfie is just a little more dominant than Archie, but they look identical and get on very well together. They are used to other dogs and live with an elderly Golden Retriever. They are also used to children, but have not lived with a cat. They are good on and off the lead. They sleep in their baskets in the bedroom. They are very good when travelling in the car.
Meg is a 6 year old Blue Roan show type Cocker. She has lived in her present home since she was 6 weeks old. Ever since she was small she has always cried and barked. Her owner used to think that she was attention seeking, but she still continued to squeak when given attention. This is now stopping her owner from inviting people to her home. Meg sleeps on the sofa at night and is quiet. She lives with two other dogs and they get on well together, but Meg doesn't play with the other dogs. The dogs are being left quite long hours as their owner works. Meg has not lived with a cat. She has had occasional contact with children and has been good. Her recall is very good, but she pulls a bit on the lead. She travels well in the car.
Ruby is a 6 year old Chocolate working type Cocker. She needs a new home as she doesn't like the male show Cocker that she is now living with - she really bullies him. Ruby is a lovely dog, but needs to be the only dog in the home. She is OK with other dogs in the park - she tends to run towards them and bark, but never attacks. She will need some firm training to stop her doing this as it can be worrying to other dog owners. Ruby has not lived with children or cats. She does love her food and could do with loosing some weight. She is good on and off the lead and she loves to search around amongst bushes. She travels well in the car and can be left for short periods. Ruby is urgently looking for a new home.
Bob is a 7 year old Black and White Springer. He has lovely markings - Black flecks rather than Black patches. He seems to be a very friendly dog. Bob used to belong to the owners relative, who is now too ill to look after him. The owners, themselves, have had to move into rented accommodation, that doesn't allow dogs. Bob has lived in an outside kennel all his life, but he is house trained and will not mess in the house or in his kennel. He has not lived with children, but is very friendly towards visiting nieces and nephews. He is good with other dogs and has lived with another dog in the past. He has not lived with a cat. He is fairly good on the lead and his recall is good, once he gets to know you. He travels well in the car and can be left for short periods.
Patch is a 2 year old Liver and White Springer. She needs a new home due to a change in family circumstances. The family have no garden and also the teenager in the family tends to tease her. Patch is used to children, but possibly needs a home without children as she can be possessive with food and toys. She has not lived with a cat. She has quite a nervous personality and can be wary of other dogs as she was bitten by a Rottweiler. Her family avoid taking her to the place that it happened. She will hide behind your legs if scared and could bolt if very frightened. Patch pulls on the lead and her recall is very good. She travels well in the car and can be left for short periods. Patch is behaving well, at our kennels, with the other dogs.
