Spaniels that have found their new forever homes during this month
Benji is a Black and White Springer, who is about 11 to 12 years old. He has come to CAESSR as he was found straying. When Benji arrived he had very bad Kennel Cough and had developed pneumonia. He was extremely thin. With anti-biotics and careful nursing he is now fit and well and ready to go to a permanent foster home. We think that Benji may have been a working dog. His teeth are good, but ground down - he is a stone-chewer. He will drop them at your feet to be thrown. Benji is very ball-obsessed and is best not to be given one. He has been over enthusiastic when playing ball to the extent that he has grabbed the ball together with the hand of the person playing with him. Benji is now deaf so needs to be kept on a lead when out walking. He is fully house trained. He is good with visiting grandchildren and good with other dogs. He is also OK around livestock. He is a bit naughty in the garden as he likes to dig holes! If caught unawares he will grumble, but would make a lovely companion for an experienced Spaniel lover.
Zoe is a small 4.5 year old Liver and White Springer. Her owner has health problems and there has also been a change in family circumstances. Zoe is very good with children. She has lived with a male Springer and used to be possessive with him over food and possessions. She is generally good with other dogs, but has no cat experience. Recently she has been living outside in a shed, but she is house trained and used to sleep inside in the winter. Zoe pulls a bit on the lead and her recall is poor and she will need more training. She travels well in the car and can be left for short periods, but she does bark quite a lot at our base when excited.
Leo is a 3.5 year old Liver and White Springer, who needs a new home due to a change in family circumstances. He is used to children and has lived with another dog. He has no cat experience. He pulls a bit on the lead, but does understand "Heel" and he has a very good recall. Leo loves his ball. He is a good traveller and can be left for a couple of hours, although he had the company of another dog. Although house trained, Leo has recently been living in a shed. When he came to CAESSR he was extremely thin and very depressed.
Bruce is a 4 year old Liver and White Springer. Sadly his owner has recently passed away. Her daughter cannot keep him as she works all day and lives in rented accommodation, where she cannot keep a dog. Bruce is used to the owner's grandchildren and is good with other dogs. He has no cat experience. He walks well on the lead and is used to an extending lead. His recall is very good. Bruce has a squint in one eye that he has had since he was a pup. He travels well in the car and is OK if left just for a couple of hours - he used to have almost constant company.
Molly is a 4 year old Liver and White Springer. She needs a new home due to a change in family circumstances. She is a lovely dog, who is used to children and cats and she is good with other dogs. Molly is good on and off the lead. She travels well in the car and can be left for short periods.
Dusty is an 11 month old Chocolate and White working type Cocker. He is very food orientated and has nipped the finger of the two year old child when taking food from his hand. Dusty is generally good with children. He lives with a cat and is very good with it and he is well socialised with other dogs. Dusty is brilliant on the lead and good when off lead. He is house trained and can be left home alone for a few hours. He travels well in the car.
Buddy is a 4 year old Black and White Springer. His owner is unable to care for him due to an increased work-load and also a change of circumstances. Buddy is used to children of all ages. He has not lived with a cat. As Buddy has recently been left home alone for such long hours he has started to become aggressive towards other dogs on initial contact. When he is around them for a bit he calms down and has never bitten. Buddy pulls initially on the lead and is then better. His recall used to be brilliant, but he is now a bit slow coming back. He travels well in the car and is looking for a home where he will not be left home alone for too long.
At our base Buddy is a good boy with people, but he is very shy with other dogs. He is gradually beginning to integrate with the others.
