Spaniels that have found their new forever homes during this month
JD is a 21 month old golden working type cocker. His owner can no longer give him the walks that he needs due to his ongoing health problems. JD is a very boisterous young dog who needs lots of walks and activity. He is a lovely affectionate member of the family who is loved very much and he is looking for a stable and secure new family. JD is good with children & friendly towards other dogs but would chase a cat. He is good on walks but tends to pull on the way home. He is generally very good off-lead but sometimes gets a bit distracted and giddy! He travels well in the car and can be left for short periods with the run of the kitchen and dining room with something to chew to keep him occupied.
Molly is a 5 year old Blue Roan working type Cocker. She has been rescued by her present owner, who can't keep her as she already has two dogs. Molly is very affectionate and well socialised. She is used to children and other dogs, but has not lived with a cat. She can be a bit possessive over bones if another dog attempts to take it. She is excellent to groom. She can pull on the lead when excited and her recall needs more work. Molly travels well in the car and can be left for short periods.
Bradley is a 6 year old Black working type Cocker. He needs a new home as his owner is extremely poorly. His owner used to shoot and Bradley was living with his litter brother. Bradley is very nervous around guns so wasn’t used as a gundog. His recall is trained to the whistle and he is very good on the lead. He loves being groomed. He never barks. He has a comfort teddy, which he likes to carry around and he will also steal teddy bears if allowed! Bradley will beg for food like a naughty child so may be best homed with no young children. He hasn’t lived with a cat. He shows no sign of aggression towards other dogs when on walks, but other dogs don’t seem to like him. He has bitten once when his lead was being put on after a walk. It is thought that his owner punished him harshly when training his recall. Bradley travels well in the car. He is not used to being left home alone as he has always been left with other dogs.
Molly is a 9 year old Light Blue Roan show type Cocker. She lives with another female Cocker of the same age and also with a male Jack Russell. The two girls are half-sisters and have never been best mates. Recently the fighting seems to be worse and the Jack Russell will join in too. The owners now have a small grandson and are worried about him getting hurt. They feel Molly will be best in a home where she is the only dog. Molly is a pretty dog, who loves people and enjoys playing with the children next door. She can retrieve. She will sometimes steal things and gets possessive, but will usually give them up for a treat. She has not lived with a cat. She sleeps in her crate, but is rarely shut in unless travelling in the car. She sometimes climbs on top of the crate and can’t get down! Molly is good on and off the lead. Her recall word is “Here”. She travels well in the car and can be left for short periods.
Ben is an 8 year old Liver and White Springer. His family are relocating and cannot find a property to rent that will accept pets. Ben would play ball all day if someone would throw it for him. He loves being stroked, but prefers you not to pat near his rear end. Ben is good with other dogs, but would chase cats. He is used to children, but may be best with older ones only. He sleeps in the kitchen and can be left home alone for short periods. His recall is excellent - he will not go far from you. He pulls a little, at first, on the lead and is then OK. He travels very well in the car. Ben needs grooming - we will try and get this done before he is rehomed. At kennels, we have found that Ben is quite food possessive, especially towards other dogs. He will need to be the only dog in the home.
MILO is a 3 year old black Spaniel X Cocker and PADDY is a 16 month old chocolate working type Cocker. The owner has sadly lost his job and the family have to move home and can't have the dogs with them. The family would like the two dogs to be homed together. Milo is a very loving and friendly dog and loves human interaction. He has a very laid back character but gets excited when he sees his food bowl! He enjoys his walks and is very good off lead but has a tendency to pull at times when on the lead. Paddy is extremely affectionate and loving but can be timid. He has no experience of spending time on his own as he has always been with Milo but he can still become anxious at times. He can become slightly nervous around large dogs that he doesn't know. Paddy pulls on the lead for most of a walk. His recall is very good. Both dogs are used to children of all ages. They have not lived with a cat. The dogs sleep in the kitchen/utility area. Milo travels very well but Paddy needs reassurance at times.
Lucy is a 9 month old liver & white springer. She is a lovely, intelligent, lively little girl who would benefit from consistently kind but firm handling. Lucy came to rescue because she exhibited a form of shadow chasing which can be a manifestation of stress. During the time she has been in her foster home, a change in routine has reduced this considerably and there is no reason as she develops that she will not out grow it entirely if she is given correct exercise and mental stimulation. Her worst fault is that she will lunge if there is food about. She now responds to the OFF command and she will then sit but she is still a puppy and so she will need to be reminded and encouraged to sit and wait for food which she is learning to do. She loves people and gets very excited with visitors come but if you don’t make a fuss of her until she has all four feet on the ground; she will learn not to jump up. She can be wilful and needs to know her boundaries but with patience she will learn and will make a lovely pet. Initially on walks she will try to lunge at passing cars but if you encourage her to sit while they pass, the excitement soon wears off and she is lovely to walk. She doesn’t pull and sits quietly if you stop to talk. She loves other dogs but needs to approach them in her time, particularly larger boisterous dogs. After a hard day being a puppy there is nothing she likes more in the evening than to curl up and go to sleep. She uses a crate at the moment and sleeps through all night without a peep.
Lucy needs a very experienced owner, who will be firm with her and has good "house rules".
Sally is a 13 year old Black working type Cocker with a little Grey patch on her nose. She is a lovely friendly dog, who is still very nimble for her age. She is looking for a permanent foster home as her lady owner has been taken into a care home. Sally is used to children of all ages and is good with other dogs. She has not lived with a cat. Sally is good on the lead. She travels well in the car and can be left for short periods.
