Dear John an Di
It is with sadness that we write to let you know that Harvey lost his his fight for life on Sunday aged 11 years and 7 months.
Harvey and his sibling Sam joined us in the Forest of Dean in 2011 when they were 8 years old. We knew that Harvey had a stent fitted as a puppy and soon after his arrival here, our vet put him on daily medication as he was showing signs of breathlessness. This served him well and he enjoyed daily woodland walks and regular trips to the coast where he chased seagulls and swam in the sea. Harvey, a blue roan, was a stunner and frequently received compliments about his good looks and big dark brown eyes. He and Sam were adored by all of the family especially our grand daughters.
The ageing process gradually took hold and he found it more and more difficult to keep pace with his brother. In August this year he was diagnosed with congestive heart failure. Additional medication to relieve fluid retention and to control his blood pressure was prescribed giving him a further 4 months with us. He never complained and retained his dignity to the end when we needed to make the dreaded final visit to the vet. Harvey and Sam had always lived together - soul mates. Harvey was the more anxious of the brothers and experienced high levels of anxiety if separated from Sam.
Sam was with him until the end. We miss him terribly but are now dedicating our time to Sam to help him adjust to being an only dog. Sam is helping us adjust too.
We feel privileged to have had Harvey in our lives and will never forget him.
Bob, Daphne and Sam (17-12-2014)
